Dermaplaning vs. Microdermabrasion – Which Is Right for You?

This is one of the most common questions we get at our spa… “Should I book a dermaplane or a microderm?” Both facial treatments are excellent choices when focusing on exfoliation, and they are completely non-invasive and non-chemical. Dermaplaning and microdermabrasion are both meant to rejuvenate your skin and remove dead skin cells, but how they get there and the benefits we get from each are where we see the differences between the two. Out with the old, in with the new! Before we dive into the pros and cons of each of these services, you might be wondering, “why

Can Sunscreen Actually Be Bad for You?

Let’s dig a little deeper into this subject and think twice about what we’re putting all over our face and body.  There are two ways we can protect ourselves with sunscreen- with a mineral barrier or a chemical barrier. A mineral sunscreen is usually made with zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. In chemical sunscreens, you’ll see ingredients like oxybenzone, avobenzone, octisalate, octocrylene, homosalate, and octinoxate. I feel like this is such a debatable subject these days. Dermatologists tell A LOT of people to use brands like Cetaphil and Neutrogena. (If you’re one of the many people that use Neutrogena because it’s

Are My Brows a Lost Cause?

Let’s just call her Mary. She came to me with barely any brows left – they were patchy and full of holes. I see this all the time. People go to a bunch of different waxers with different waxing styles. Sometimes all it takes is just one time of someone butchering your brows to leave them never looking the same again. (This is why I’m so particular about every little hair that comes out). Side note: wanting your brows overly shaped can come back to bite you in the butt when styles change or when they naturally start to thin

Why I got into skincare

For this month, I decided to take a more personal approach to my blog. Some of you might already know this, but for those who don’t, here’s a little bit of my story… As a teenager, I struggled with acne. I had breakouts for years and some of those breakouts led to scarring and small “pits” on my cheeks. Years of breakouts took a toll on my self-esteem and were very difficult to deal with. I managed my acne with over the counter products like Clearasil and proactive until my early 20’s when I finally saw a dermatologist in Florida.

Facials: Why we love them

We all love facials. What’s not to love? Someone rubbing your skin. The delicious smells. The soothing music and ambiance. Relaxing you to the point of sleep. It’s enough to want one for just the psychological benefits. What you may not know is besides making you look and feel amazing, relaxing your mind and body, facials provide a lot of benefits for your skin.  Facials stimulate the blood flow to aid the flow of oxygen and other nutrients to the skin and help the removal of waste products. They maintain the tone of the underlying muscle helping to prevent lines

Why is everyone talking about dermaplanes?

What is dermaplaning and why has it become this big thing that all your friends are doing? I get asked about dermaplaning a lot now and to those of you who are thinking  about it, but are skeptical and have questions, hopefully this will help. Dermaplaning gently removes the fine facial hair and dead skin on your face. Removing all of that instantly makes your skin soooo much smoother and brighter. (Most of my clients freak out about how their skin looks after finally trying it. It is unreal what comes off!) Does it hurt? Do I have to keep doing
